I worked for the Big A for 4 years. I can confirm that you did not eat or drink on shift if you wanted to keep your job. You used your "lunch" break to use the bathroom.
Of course the PR lawyers aren't aware of the conditions in the warehouse. They're half a world away in Seattle, kissing King Bezos' ass in air conditioned royalty.
No union would dare stand against King Bezos. No union would be stupid enough to try.
You don't like working for Amazon? Walk. Less work done by you means more pay for me. Amazon is like McDonald's or Walmart. It's unskilled labor for us losers in life.
Maybe those of you calling for workers' rights/unions at Amazon should actually *ask* workers at Amazon if they're treated badly compared to other employers. The reviews I've seen from warehouse workers have been pretty much that it's hard work but not tedious and for great pay.
A lot of outrage in these articles comes from people who want to feel bad on behalf of workers who would rather you stay out of a good deal. For example, most workers would rather not be breaking their backs on the heavy loads or mindlessly taping the millions of boxes that the robots are doing for them -- they'd rather do the more complex dexterous tasks and are thankful for robots.
I can say that when you get hired at a walmart DC, you have to watch a 1-2 hour video basically brainwashing you against unions.
A literal quote from the video is "Walmart employees don't WANT a union. Our open door policy prevents the need for it. " the open door thing is bullshit.
I do enjoy my job though, RSR lift driver, aka pallet relocation specialist, aka pick shit up and put it down.
Most of the people I've known who worked for Amazon said it was fucking brutal and cut-throat, and the pay was shit, but not as shit as fast food. They all worked for a month, then fucking quit because it wasn't worth the extra 1$/hour compared to walmart or mcdonalds.

I don't think it's an excessive thing to ask that you be given a fucking break once in awhile so you don't have to piss in bottles or wear a fucking diaper. Automation should mean there is plenty of time to have such luxuries, why should people be working to the point where they can't take a leak? I used to work in a factory (not Amazon) and I had time to go to the bathroom and had my legal 30 minute break.
Or does more automation mean people actually have to work even harder to the point where they can't even use a bathroom? Because that sounds like less progress, not more. There are plenty of demanding jobs that don't ask you to piss in a bottle because you can't get 5 minutes to use the bathroom.
Automation doing enough for civilization to not work already happened at least back in the 50s. Everything else has just been gross excess that a very few hoard but tell the majority to blame niggers spics and poorfags.
As such, we'll reach a point where lunch breaks will be "removed" too, and so will going home instead of the cops in the break room. Maybe just stop getting paid since you already have boarding, maybe only count as 2/3 of a person... Hopefully you can see what I'm getting at.

this. warehouse jobs are no joke. You better be a fucking beast if you expect to do well there. They can train people in 1 day probably. No incentive to coddle their workers. I worked at a walmart dc and I was loading trucks up day 1 and climbing up catwalks and conveyors clearing jams by day 3.
I have a job now where it takes 1 month or more to train a worker up, and guess what- sure you can go to he fucking bathroom. because if they quit it fucking blows for us.

Unions won't do anything. I live in Australia, a place which has as one of it's two major parties a party which was literally formed out of Unions, had probably the strongest union representation in the western world, and our unions basically don't give two fucking shits about workers - just about padding their coffers for fucking retarded social justice campaigns (what's that? our average wage has decreased and you've lost holidays and penalty rates? BUT WHAT ABOUT THAT MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR CAMPAIGN WE RAN FOR TRANSGENDER ACCEPTANCE PROGRAMS IN SCHOOLS AND ALL THOSE POSTERS WE MADE PROMOTING MASS MIGRATION OF CHEAP BROWN LABOUR!?).
I can't imagine America would be capable of mustering any sort of real union efforts.
Hell - when I worked in retail, our union rep (a person who told us working for a union fresh out of university was a really "fun and easy" way to gain work experience and that it paid really well considering how "easy" it was) made it clear that workers with no trade skills had to accept that any offer by companies to retain your employment was as generous as it could get.
It's always an up down - I know guys who used to use up about 45 minutes to an hour of their shift on bathroom breaks. Just go in there and browse the net on their phones. That's why they started telling people to tell supervisors when they were going to piss or shit, which is kind of fucked up, but basically a result of other assholes abusing the system.

It's hilarious - our Unions started the white Australia policy, a racist policy specifically designed to reduce the number of non-unionized workers in the country.
...And two years ago they spent millions to promote the use of fucking McDonald's and KFC being allowed to fly in Asians to work below minimum wage because of "staff shortages" (when it was shown they were simply not hiring locals, it was explained that there was a shortage of staff willing to work for less than the legal minimum wage kek).
I don't know about the U.S., but all these changes started in the early 80's as the Labor parties and unions became dominated by the children of working class unionists who had been the first wave of working class kids to get university educations in the 1960's.
There was an interesting article by one of these kids (who went on to be one of Australia's most respected literary authors) only a few days ago where he said that his entire generation had "pulled the ladder up behind them" - their parents had fought long and hard to get workers rights and free (or extremely cheap education) and then his generation had promptly turned around and embraced """""liberalism""""" and done away with all of that, because we're all "individuals" now.
Europe, even the U.K. (which is worse than most of the rest of Northern Europe) is still miles better than Australia (which has spent 20 years under a heavy propaganda campaign from both the left and the right to "embrace" our "Asianess"), which is still miles better than the U.S....and banning piss breaks is a thing here (though not official - but you'll find yourself getting fucked over hard for "abusing" it)

Up until recently, the vasty majority of Democrat financing came from Unions, but in recent years they have received huge investments from Bloomberg, Microsoft, Alphabet (google), Goldman Sachs and Citigroup.
Most of them still contribute large amounts to the Republicans to, but more to the Democrats. Except Bloomberg and Newsweb, which give all their cash to the Democrats.
I can't speak for all of them, but typically those working manual jobs can't afford time off, I would guess a week? to find another job.
Even white collar jobbers tell you to get offers in writing before making any hints to the current employer, since they can't afford lapses in pay either.
